The curtains to the penthouse were closed tight, hiding the life of the family behind them. A young girl sat on the floor in front of a go board. Playing with the small black pieces and waiting for her mother's move. The front door slammed shut and immediately the two hid the board from sight and rushed to the door.
The mother, a beautiful woman with dark brown hair and eyes gave the first bow. The little girl bowing a second after. In unison they welcomed the man home and waited for his answer, heads still bowed.
The man slipped out of his shoes and grunted at the two of them. The little girl and mother straightened as he walked past. The little girl looked up at her mother with wide eyes, one blue and one brown. The mother smiled down at her and patted her head.
"Today's going to be a good night Yumi," she said with a small smile.
Yumi nodded to her mother as they headed into the main room. Her father looked up from the couch and slid a paper at her mother.
"Nobuko," he said glaring at her, "Sign these and get out."
Her mother grit her teeth and walked forward, "A divorce?"
"I'm leaving you for my lover."
Yumi's mother said nothing more and signed the papers. She went to her room and packed in a matter of minutes, almost like she'd been waiting for this moment. Yumi ran over and grabbed her mother's kimono and stared up at her.
"Mother? Mother where are you going?"
"Away from that demon and you," she said with a smirk, "Good luck monster."
"M-mother?! Mother don't leave me!" Yumi cried keeping a hold of the woman as she went to the door, "Take me with you Mother!"
"Let go of me you spawn!" the woman screamed shoving the girl back, "Who could ever love something like you?!"
Yumi looked up at her mother from the ground, tears spilling over her cheeks. The door slammed and she sat there crying her eyes out.
