I have always been a full vampire. Since birth. Not one of those sappy Twilight vampires, not one of those crazy psychotic blood-crazy vampires. I'm not a Vampanese and I never will be.
My parents, Zinny and Darren, did their best to try and give me and my siblings, Rose and Rhys, normal lives. They sent us to different schools and made us take cute family vacations every six months... To others, we're the average family. And to some we are a picture perfect family? It's ironic because we did this to hide the fact we have to drink human blood to live.
My first drink was from a lone man in an alley way. It was pretty frightening, but Rhys and Rose helped me get used to it. Lets get this straight: I have never killed someone for their blood. We vampires have toxic breath that knocks humans out. Once they're out, we suck a little blood. Not enough to hurt them but enough to get us through a week.
Middle school was a big challenge for me. My grades were fine and the teachers were alright, it's just there was so much drama. Every girl liked a certain boy and would think these feelings would last for centuries. I never really got along with any girls my age, any boys either. I didnt want to have those feelings. Because of my vampire nature, I had to completely cover my hands, arms, feet, ankles, neck and even my face from the sun. I swore someday I would find a way to concur the sun's rays but in the meantime I'd have to look like an idiot.
My life didn't take a positive turn until I met Cameron. I walked out of my last class of the day and heard some kids poking fun at another. I took defense mode and swore to the bullies I would suck their blood. They laughed at me, cause you know vampires are silly. Pretty soon my anger boiled over and I flashed my vampire teeth at them making them scream and run away. Cam sat on the ground behind me, with his head in-between his knees guarding himself from the bullies. I gave him my hand to help him to his feet.
"I'm not going to hurt you." I said with a smile. He gave me a half smile and took my hand.
From then on, Cam and I were friends. Really I'm the only person he would talk to. He didn't even speak to his parents or his teacher. He was a big mystery, but he was my friend and that's all that seemed to matter. The best thing of all was we lived close by each other. A five minute walk separated us. Cam made a point to walk me home everyday. He was two years older, but when I had met him he hadn't hit his growth spurt and when he did he reached to be nearly six feet. Unlike the other guys of his grade that had made fun of him all those years, Cam had conquered acne and had a pretty well paying job at a mechanic shop. He started talking more and girls flocked around him now because he was sweet, but he always had time for me. He would have fit into the popular crowd if he had stopped being friends with me.
"Why are you my best friend?" I'd sometimes ask him out of the blue.
"Why do you ask that?" He'd ask back.
"I asked first."
"But I don't understand your question."
I'd let it blow over once he made me look into his pale blue eyes. They somehow pleaded with me to quit asking and yet made me want to ask a million times more.
"I heard that new girl asked you to the dance at school." I said.
"Yeah so?" He asked looking at me.
"Well I'm thinking of going with Wayne." I said.
"Wayne?"

"Yeah..."
"Uh alright." Cam said. Wayne was one of Cam's bullies. The one with the best control of his acne. He was hot and well to be honest was probably just asking me to get on Cameron's nerves. I didn't mind. I guess his looks kind of blinded me. I was a fool for his soft complexion and gorgeous eyes. They seemed to have pretty flecks of purple in them.
Since I started dating Wayne before the dance came, I started drifting toward the popular group. The popular girls wanted me to sit with them and get our nails done together. It was weird at first, but then I realized I liked it.
I first I went dress shopping with Cam for the dance. I found a beautiful white sweetheart style dress that made me feel like a princess. It was even in my budget, so I bought it.
The next day my new girl friends asked me to go shopping for dresses with them. I told them I already went and showed them pictures of me in the white dress I loved so much.
"That's not really Wayne's style..." One girl said. The girl who agreed with everyone shook her head in agreement.
"No that's not going to work." Another-I think Gina or Samantha-said. I finally caved in and went dress shopping with them.
I looked through the dresses and agreed to try on a couple I would never wear. Gina, if that's her name, found a short tight purple one with cuts in the sides. It had a pretty low cut and made me think of a hooker I had seen get murdered in Law And Order once... I felt pressure to put it on, but I did.
"It's gorgeous!" One girl said with her jaw dropped. I stood in front of them awkwardly and didn't know whether to hide my cleavage or hide the fact the dress seemed like a second layer of skin.
"Really?" I asked looking down at my feet. The girls boosted me up with compliments that made me stand straighter. They convinced me I looked appropriate and got me to buy the dress that was 3 hundred dollars over my budget. I'd have to borrow from my parents and sell the pretty white one I had bought before.
The night before the dance, I called Cam to come over and look at my new dress. I put it on and showed him. He immediately shut his eyes. "What?" I asked.
"What is that? It looks like a bathing suit." He said.
"It's my dress." I said somewhat angered. Did he think I didn't look good? Or was he just jealous I was becoming popular?
"I'm not letting you go out in that." He said.
"You're not letting me go out in this?"
"No you look like a skank!" Cameron said his voice wavering.
"Get out."
"Not until you tell me you're not wearing that."
"Who do you think you are? My boyfriend!?"
"Annie..."
"Get out!" I yelled turning to my window. I couldn't let Cam see me cry. No one could see me cry. Cam left and I shut my room door behind him. I changed into pajamas and got into my bed.
I hear a knock. Rhys, my brother, walked into my room before I could object. He sat down next to me and stared at my wall. "Come here." He said giving me his arms. I sobbed a little and fell into him. He engulfed me and I cried into his chest. We stayed there for an hour that felt like forever.

I calmed down and let Rhys go. He looked me in my wet teary eyes. "You don't have to explain." He said as I nodded and wiped my drenched face. Rhys gave me a small smiled that I tried to mimic and left me alone on my own.
The dance came fast and out of no where. I got myself dressed and Rose helped me do my hair. My parents would be gone for the weekend and had taken Rhys with them.
"You know, I don't think mom and dad would like you going out like that." She said. I rolled my eyes and sighed. She finished and I did my make up.
Wayne would be here any minute to pick me up. I heard a car honk. That was him. "Really? He's not coming to the door?" Rose asked.
I ignored her and left after grabbing a clutch that costed me another 200 dollars. I got into Wayne's car.
"You look handsome." I said with a smile.
"Thanks." He said cranking his car. We road in silence until we got to the dance. He pulled up his SUV and stopped as some people crossed the street in front of them. Gina-definitely her name- walked in front of us.
Wayne pulled me closer to him and stuck his tongue down my throat. Bleh! He slobbered like a dog. Not the way I wanted to spend my first kiss. He let me go as Gina turned her head back to Pete, her date. I gave him a weird look.
"Lets go inside." He said.
We got inside and I watched his eyes wander around the room. Who was he looking for?
"I'm kind of thirsty." I said trying to give him a hint.
"There's punch over there." Wayne said.
"Oh. I'm going to go get some..." I said my voice trailing off.
"Wait, Annie!" He said. I turned and smiled. "Get me some too. No ice."
I gritted my teeth and went to get the punch anyways. I liked Wayne. I poured some punch and a figure stepped on the other side of the table in front of me.
"Hey. You look beautiful." It was Cam. "I didn't get to walk you home today."
"i thought i looked like a slut." i said pouring another punch.
"I didnt mean that. Where were you?" He asked.
"Does it matter? Like I said, you're not my boyfriend." I snapped.
"But i am your best friend."
"Not anymore." I said turning to go back to Wayne. I made it to him without dropping a drink on anyone.
"Wayne." I said walking up to his back. He turned and knocked the drinks onto my dress. My jaw dropped as the punch soaked through my dress.
Wayne shrugged and left me to go talk to his friends. A knot formed in my throat as I held down tears. I walked into the bathroom and tried to dry myself off.

I walked back out, still a little wet with fruity punch. I looked for Wayne until I finally found him. I almost wish I hadn't. I opened a closet in the dance hall thinking it was another hallway to different rooms, but there Wayne was, his arms around another girl kissing her like he had kissed me in his car. I guess I wasn't surprised Wayne had cheated on me... The big surprise was Gina, the girl I thought was my new friend, was the girl he cheated on me with. Not only had she betrayed our "friendship" but she was also wearing the beautiful white dress I had loved so much.
Gina smiled and laughed. "Slut." She muttered before kissing Wayne again.
I ran away before they could see or hear me cry. I ran down a hall and out a back door. I leaned against the cold building wall and sobbed. The door opened and I turned my face to the ground. I recognized the person immediately just from their familiar aura. Cameron.
"Annie... I'm sorry." He said coming closer to me.
"Stop." I said before he could put his arms around me. If he hugged me everything I was feeling would pour out in just one second.
"Did I hurt you?" He asked ignoring my wish for him to stay away. Cam pulled me in.
I let out a sob and pushed him back before I could cry any further. "Not everything is about you!" I screamed.
The next day of school I tried to feign a sickness, but my parents didn't buy it. I got dressed and made my way to school, I didn't have to wear layers that day since there were so many clouds in the sky, however I wore a hood to hide myself from Gina and Wayne. I walked into school and went directly to my locker.
Gina stepped in front of it before I could lay a hand on the lock. "Hey hoe." She said with a snicker.
"Leave me alone." I said tucking a stray strand of hair into my hoodie.
Gina stepped behind me and I tried to quickly unlock my locker. She pulled my hoodie off my head. I cringed at the thought of what she'd do next. "Did you see my dress last night?" She said leaning closer and closer to my ear until I felt her breath against it.
"Some dumb girl returned it and I just had to have it. I heard she looked like a fat cow in it anyways." She continued.
I shook my head and moved away from her. Gina came closer. "And you know what? She ended up walking home alone! What a loser."
By then I had had it. I glared at Gina and flashed my fangs. Instead of scaring her, she leaned into my personal space. "You better watch it bloodsucker." She whispered.
Gina shoved me against a locker and walked off leaving me in shock. I looked up and saw Cameron. He had seen the whole thing. Now he knew what I was. Before he thought I had just occasionally worn plastic fangs when I was young. Now he knew the truth.

That day after school I wasn't surprised to see Cam waiting for me. He probably had a million questions that I had no intention of answering. I didn't hesitate to walk past him, but he stopped me by walking in front of me.
"Annie."
"What?"
"I'm worried about you."
"You shouldn't be. I'm a vampire."
"I know."
"I'm immortal. I can take care of myself." I took me a little to realize what he had just said.
I gave him a confused angry glare. "You know? So that's it?" I asked.
"Annie, I've known since I met you."
I looked at him. "I figured it out." He said.
"Figured it out?"
"Figured you out."
I rolled my eyes.
"Look I'm concerned as to how Gina knew." Cam said looking at me with his icey blue eyes.
I cut my eye contact with him. If I took one more second to admire them, I'd fall at his feet. I'd look weak.
"I'll be fine, Cam." I said turning my back on him and walking away. I didn't need his help.

The next day I made the mistake of going to school again. I sat outside for lunch and finished eating my food. I saw Gina and tried to hide, but no matter what I did, she would see me.
"Hey leech! How's it hanging?" She asked stepping away from her pose.
I ignored her.
"I know you can hear me." She laughed and leaned closer to me and whispered, "You vamps have super hearing, right?"
Gina left me to go make someone else miserable. How did she know who, or what, I am? I racked my brain for answers. Maybe she was a vampire too? No, she couldn't be.
"You wanna know why I know about what you are?" She whispered crossing her arms.
I stared at her speechless.
"You'll know soon enough." Gina hissed.
